General journalist travel to Cambodia

When it come to general travel to Cambodia for journalists the country is relatively open, although you do technically need a visa that is not a tourists one.

There are many foreign news agencies registered in Cambodia, but there have also been times when some have been thrown out of the country due to their reporting in the current ruling Cambodian Peoples Party, or affiliation with the opposition.

Generally speaking though there is little to no danger physically on foreign journalists in Cambodia, of which there are many.

This is largely the same in all parts of Cambodia, such as Siem Reap and Battambang.

Interviewing politicians in Cambodia

This hold largely be avoided particularly if pertaining to politics and surrounding events such as an election. If caught at rallies, talking to people, or worse at a protest and you are found not to have the correct accreditation then you fully risk being arrested.

If though you are covering historical aspects of the country, such as the rule of the Khmer Rouge, or the Angkor era then the country is extremely relaxed to freelance journalists.

It should also be noted here that Cambodia is actually one of the easiest countries within the region to obtain a business visa, work permit and bank account, so “working here” is technically quite easy. Again this is assuming that you are not dealing with politics.
